The SameCell "Cell Capture Program" pays money to BlackBerry users (or their selected charity) who install a light application on their phone that
sends GPS and cell tower information to SameCell's servers.
This cell tower data helps us
to expand the coverage area of our location-based services and provide a better experience for users of the SameCell social networking service.
What you can do for us
Install a light application on your BlackBerry. Installation takes about 30 seconds. The application will run in the background and capture cell tower data such as the tower’s ID and signal strength. Your BlackBerry will automatically send this data to our servers on a periodic basis. You can uninstall the application quickly and easily at any time.

What we will do for you
We will pay you or the charity of your preference for the data that your BlackBerry sends to our servers. Provided that you have a data plan with available capacity, you will not incur any costs. We currently pay $0.04 for each cell tower. Towers are typically a few miles apart, therefore a few hours of driving in a new area could capture anywhere from 20 – 60 towers ($0.80 – 2.40). Our experience has shown typical monthly earnings between $10 to $30 for users with frequent travel to new areas. Please note that we only pay for newly discovered towers, thus driving the same route to and from work will not accumulate repeat revenue. The application on your Blackberry will display the total number of cells discovered and accumulated earnings.
Privacy
Actual location data is not associated with you or your account. We update our master cell tower database periodically with new towers that you have captured. We then update a counter in your account so that you can be credited for the data and compensated, but there is no remaining connection between you and any location specific data.

Q: How can I tell how many cells I’ve captured and how much I’ve earned?
A: The main screen on the Cell Capture application gets updated periodically and displays the total cells that you have discovered and the total revenue earned (in US$). This represents the accumulated totals – it does not get decremented after a payment has been made, so it will not always indicate the balance owing.
Q: When I first installed the application I was capturing a lot of cells, but the pace seems to have slowed down?
A: That is normal behaviour since each cell can only be “captured” once. Driving to and from work each day along the same route will not introduce new cells, however long road trips and travelling to new areas should result in rapid capture of new cells.
Q: Does SameCell Cell Capture cause my battery to drain faster?
A: Any noticeable battery drain is likely caused by your GPS receiver. SameCell has optimized it’s use of your GPS feature to minimize battery use. In addition, the application will stop using GPS whenever your battery power drops below 50%. We do this to ensure more important communication functions are not compromised. We recommend using a car charger on long road trips.

- You must have a BlackBerry phone with GPS such as one of the following models: Pearl 8110 or 8130, Curve 8310, or any 8800 series including 8800, 8820 or 8830. The application also works with most Bluetooth based
external GPS receivers.
- You must have a BlackBerry data plan with available capacity. SameCell is highly optimized and only sends encrypted text. Typical volume of data is 0.25 – 1MB per month.
- Payments under this program are subject to a minimum threshold of $25 as follows:
- Your first payment will not be processed until your accumulated earnings reach $25.
- Earnings of less than $25 will carry into subsequent months and continue to accrue.
- Regrettably, we can not process payments for accounts that are closed prior to earning the minimum threshold of $25.
- When the accumulated revenue outstanding during any given month meets the above threshold requirements, we will contact you via email to establish your payment preferences and payment will be made prior to the end of the following month.
- SameCell currently offers two forms of Payment: PayPal online payments and Cheque by regular mail.
- All currency amounts specified are based on US dollars. Canadian residents will be paid in Canadian dollars at par with USD. Residents outside of the US or Canada will be paid in their home currency based on the exchange rates at the time of payment.
- SameCell needs to have 3 or more donors who wish to send their revenue to a Charity before we can setup an account for that charity.
- Upon closing your account we will pay out all outstanding earnings provided that your total accumulated earnings have exceeded the minimum threshold.
- Rates subject to change at any time. Changes will be posted on this website.
- SameCell reserves the right to limit or cancel this program at any time without advance notice.
- SameCell assumes no liability of any kind arising from your participation in this program.

Installation Help
Installation of the Cell Capture application can be completed directly from your BlackBerry by following these simple steps:
- Click here to email the setup link to your BlackBerry.
(You can also use your BlackBerry’s browser and go directly to www.samecell.com/cells)
- The setup page will automatically detect the correct software version for your device. Click on the setup link labelled “Download SameCell...”.
- When the confirmation page appears, click on the “Download” button. The download usually takes 15-30 seconds to complete.
Activation
Once the application has been installed, it will need to be activated to establish a connection with the server.
- You should now see a new “SameCell Cell Capture” icon on your BlackBerry home screen. The icon looks like a cell tower with green swirls on top.
- Click on the Icon to launch the application
- You will likely get the following warning message: “The application SameCellCellCapture requested access to your GPS location information.
Do you wish to grant access?”. You will need to enable the checkbox labelled “Don’t ask this again” and click on the “Yes” button to allow the
application to use your phone’s GPS receiver.
- The Cell Capture application has a simple UI with 3 fields. Confirm your email address, your name (and a Charity if you with to donate your revenue) and then click “Save” from the menu.
