Toronto, Ontario – September 5, 2007 – SameCell Inc., an innovator in the emerging field of mobile social networking and location based Services today announced availability of a Beta version of its free proximity sharing software and service for Research in Motion’s Blackberry Devices.
This new offering combines Blackberry software and a service that enables individuals to build a list of friends, and with their acceptance, be notified of their proximity. Relying on cellular tower connections rather than GPS, the SameCell technology determines whether two people are connected to the same cell tower or adjacent cells depending on the range settings selected. A detection of proximity that matches a user’s criteria results in an email notification of proximity.
Because Samecell does not rely on GPS equipped devices, any blackberry user may benefit from the service. SameCell does not allow a user to track someone’s movements or someone to track theirs; rather it simply notifies them when someone is in the same “cell”.
