Location-Based Search

SameCell Search is a simple and efficient application for BlackBerry® SmartPhones that uses GPS and Cell-Tower positioning to provide single click searching for nearby places, services, weather and events.

Upon launching the application, you're provided with a high-level list of search categories. Simply scroll down to the desired category and click. The application will send your search request along with your current location to our server and a search result page will be sent back.

One-Click Searches

The SameCell Search application main screen contains a list of search categories. To execute a nearby search, simply roll your trackball to select a category and then click.

                        

The application will send your GPS coordinates or current cell tower ID to the SameCell server along with your category request. Our server will then search for places or services that are close to your current location and return a search result page. A sample search result page is shown below. Each search result will include click-able links so that you can; View the place on a map, get directions to the place from your current location, or call the place.

Local Weather

To get a weather forecast for your current location, simply click on the "Weather Forecast" link.

                        

A current short term and long term forecast for your current location will be returned.

Free-Form Searches for Local Places

In addition to One-Click category searches, you can also execute free-form custom searches. To begin a free-form search, scroll your trackball to the "Find Nearby Places" link and click.

                        

On the "Place Search" screen, you can enter any search term you wish, such as "subway stations", or you can re-use a previous search, such as "Thai food" by selecting it from the previous search list. SameCell remembers your last 5 searches.

Free-Form Event Searches

In addition to free-form place searches, you can also search for events that are scheduled in your area within the next few days. To begin an event search, go to the SameCell main screen, scroll your trackball to the "Find Local Events" link and click.

On the "Event Search" screen, you can enter any search term you wish, such as "conferences", or you can re-use a previous search, such as "live music" by selecting it from the previous search list. SameCell remembers your last 5 event searches.

Getting Started

The SameCell Search application was designed to be installed OTA (Over The Air) directly onto your BlackBerry in approx. 20 seconds. The application and service are free and no registration is required.
